A recent news headline read as follows: “Former abortionist calls abortion ‘murder,’ says ‘our society can’t go on this way.'”
Though changing your mind in not so uncommon, this dramatic conversion – from the pro-death view to the pro-life view – is surely one of the most striking of all!
It can be of great value to explore a serious turnaround – to look closely at how and why such a radical ‘change of heart’ might occur.
There are true conversions in each of our lives at different times; meat-eaters change to a vegetarian status, atheists switch to a faith foundation, singles walk down the aisle to join the “married” ranks.
Dr. Grant Clark, the abortion provider noted above, has shared some very intricate details about his experiences. Crucial details for people to know – but often choose to ignore.
Dr. Clark describes the most difficult part of the abortion: “…you had to go through what you suctioned out of the uterus and identify perfectly formed little arms and legs and little hands, skulls were usually crushed. Eyes and cute little noses – you just killed a baby.”
Dr. Clark is not alone in turning away from his former occupation – abortion. He remarks about now having a reasonable sense of peace with his time as an abortionist and says, “I know God has forgiven me.”
The Pro-Life Action League, founded in 1980, works to save unborn children through “non-violent direct action.” Meet the Abortion Providers, an outreach of the Pro-Life Action League, highlights multiple stories of former abortion providers.
Two such stories are that of Dr. Bernard Nathanson and Carol Everett.
Dr. Nathanson was once one of America’s premier abortion providers. He co-founded NARAL Pro-Choice America in 1969 and performed over 75,000 abortions during his time as an abortion provider (he even aborted his own child).
Nathanson credits the advent of ultrasound and other technologies, among other things, as largely responsible for his ultimate change of heart. Says Nathanson, “…as a result of all of this technology…I finally came to the conviction that this was my patient! This was a person! I was a physician, pledged to save my patients’ lives, not to destroy them.”
Dr. Nathanson chronicles his story in his book, The Hand of God: A Journey from Death to Life by the Abortion Doctor Who Changed His Mind.
Carol Everett, former abortion provider and clinic operator, further details her experiences in the abortion film, “Blood Money”.
She shares openly about the abortion industry’s skillful tactics to market and sell abortion to young women. They even aim to create “return customers” of these young women.
“They don’t sell keeping the baby. They don’t sell giving the baby up. They don’t sell delivering the baby in any form. They only sell abortions,” says Ms. Everett.
Ms. Everett believes there are no words to accurately describe just how bad abortion really is. She concludes, “I believe that every woman, even if she’s not physically harmed, is harmed by abortion.”
There is no doubt that our post Roe v Wade society – legalized abortion and the ‘culture of death’ that has resulted – has caused grave harm.
Indeed, the abortion issue has divided our country for several decades.
The pro-life movement is making strides, however, and people have openly and honestly shared the details of their radical change of heart.
Like Dr. Clark, Dr. Nathanson and Carol Everett who once fought vehemently for abortion rights, people can and do change their minds.
Though some changes may take longer than others, we should not be deterred – for it is never too late to do the right thing!
We are 40 years into legalized abortion in the United States. The pro-life movement will stay the course and continue their work towards ending all legalized abortion.
