On November 18th, Dr. Harry N. Davis, 68, of Canton, Georgia passed away peacefully in his home after a brave battle with cancer.
A tireless warrior for life, Harry enjoyed life to its fullest. He was known by many for his sense of humor and infectious laugh. Harry treasured his family and friends, fishing with his grandsons, telling corny jokes, and family beach trips.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Catherine Glover Davis, three daughters, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Canton First United Methodist Church followed by an interment service at Georgia National Cemetery.
Born in Galveston, Texas on May 2, 1945 Dr. Davis served as an Air Force flight surgeon after graduation from Mercer University and the Medical College of Georgia.
In 1977 the Davis family moved to Canton, Georgia, where Harry became a partner at Medical Associates of North Georgia. As a Family Practitioner, Dr. Davis served his community and his patients with the utmost compassion and care. He also worked intimately with medical missions in Guatemala.
Look closely at the above photo and you’ll see a tiny gold pin on Harry’s lab coat, the size of 10 week preborn baby feet! Harry wore his passion for life literally on his lapel…
As President of Cherokee County Right to Life, Harry was dedicated to the monthly meetings and the annual Canton Prayer Vigil for well over a decade. He spoke frequently at schools and public events.
Harry was devoted to Together for Life, Georgia Right to Life’s premier pro-life event (now known as the Georgia March for Life,), and even served as the physician on-call. One year, after a minor accident on the way, Harry made sure that his group secured alternate transportation to the event.
Harry was deeply committed to all aspects of the life issue, and remained a faithful supporter of Georgia Right to Life to the end.
Said by his community and friends:
- “…one of the most Godly men I’ve known…fought for the rights of the unborn, disabled and the elderly.
- “…driven by his Faith and Devoted to his Maker. His kind words and beautiful works will be greatly missed by all.
- “He was inspiring!”
Thank you, Dr. Davis, for your tireless work on behalf of the preborn, the elderly, disabled and infirm. You knew full-well that life is precious, given by God and worthy of protection. Your legacy lives on…
