DIY Suicide

September 2020 – Article 2:

It’s called the “Deathing Underground”— a dangerous collection of euthanasia advocates, pill merchants, inventors, and unscrupulous internet providers.

Never deterred by morals or the law, these individuals represent some of the worst aspects of a society that has lost respect for the sanctity of human life.

Pill Peddlers Push Prison & Veterinary Drug ‘Nembutal’

Near the top of the list are the pill peddlers in China and Mexico who secretly ship the barbiturate “Nembutal” to anyone who wants to end their life and has the technical savvy to navigate the complicated process.

Nembutal was widely used during the 1940s and 1950s as a sleeping aid, or in treating anxiety.  However, it is highly addictive and lethal in large doses. Marilyn Monroe died of a barbiturate overdose in 1962.

Today, Nembutal is a Schedule II controlled substance and can only be legally obtained with a prescription.

It is used legally as a sedative and anesthetic in hospitals, and by veterinarians to euthanize large animals. Prisons have also used Nembutal to carry out death sentences.

Nembutal is one of the drugs used by physicians in Oregon, the first state to legalize assisted suicide.

Exit International & the Dark Web

A key player in helping individuals obtain Nembutal is Exit International, an advocacy group for voluntary euthanasia and assisted suicide.

The organization, founded by Philip Nitschke in 1997, uses printed materials and the internet to help people learn how to obtain the lethal substance.

Nitschke has a truly sick view of life. “If you’ve got the precious gift of life, you should be able to give that gift away at the time of your choosing,” he has said.

To facilitate his mission Nitschke leverages the ubiquity of the internet and sophisticated consumer technologies such as encrypted messaging, cryptocurrencies, and 3D printing to empower those seeking their own death.

However, breaking the law is not easy. Would-be buyers have to know how to use the “dark web,” how to purchase “Bitcoins;” and how to use encrypted chat services.

Thankfully, there are other obstacles as well. Law enforcement has shut down most dark web marketplaces, but others keep popping up. In addition, many sites are frauds and scam people out of their money.

One of the sites claims it uses “professional packaging” and “stealth shipping” to supply its customers.

In an effort to keep the death pills coming, Exit International is reportedly designing workshops to teach people how to communicate securely online and use cryptocurrencies to buy the deadly chemical.

Suicide Chamber Doubles as a Coffin

Another of Nitschke’s twisted ideas is a suicide device named “Sarco,” short for sarcophagus. Resembling a futuristic spacecraft, it will permit a person to kill themselves in five minutes.

A prototype of the device was unveiled late last year in Amsterdam. Designed by Nitschke and Dutch designer Alexander Bannink, Sarco comes with a detachable coffin mounted on a stand that contains a nitrogen canister.

If this monstrosity ever becomes available, the design will be put online for people to download to an industrial-size 3D printer.

Before using it, a person would have to complete a so-called online psychiatric evaluation to ensure they are mentally capable of making the decision to end their life.

If they pass, they will be provided a code valid for 24 hours, to unlock the machine. During that window, the user can climb into the capsule, close the hatch, and press the button. Fifteen minutes later they’re dead.

The capsule detaches and can be used as a coffin. Viewed from any reasonable standpoint all of this is both nonsense and wrong.

Clearly, these developments are a reflection of a society that is increasingly focused on avoiding difficult situations and taking life.

Please share this article and pray that through God’s saving grace anyone considering ending their own life will find the love and compassion they need and are actually seeking.
