October 2019 – Article 2:
Let’s begin by stating a medically proven fact: abortion is never necessary to save the life of the mother.
Despite adamant claims by abortion advocates, thousands of OB-GYNs worldwide have affirmed that there is no situation in which the direct, intentional killing of a pre-born child is of any medical benefit to the mother.
Aside from being unnecessary, it says the mother’s life is more important than her child’s and totally denies the Personhood of the pre-born.
Organizations Representing More Than 30,000 Physicians Testify
This issue was highlighted earlier this year when members of seven professional medical organizations representing more than 30,000 physicians testified before Congress on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act S311.
The measure is stalled in the Senate and is not expected to advance.
The medical group noted that there are rare circumstances in which a mother’s life is in jeopardy due to either pre-existing conditions or pregnancy complications.
However, it is extremely rare in general and especially rare for this to occur prior to the point when the baby could survive outside the womb (currently 22 weeks LMP, or 20 weeks after fertilization).
In cases where the mother’s life is actually in danger later in the pregnancy, immediate delivery of the baby is needed and can be done in a medically acceptable way (labor induction or C-section).
One such situation is “preeclampsia,” a complication characterized by high blood pressure and signs of damage to another organ system, most often the liver and kidneys.
Sound Medical Practice is to Treat Both Mother and Child
“Obstetricians who abide by the Hippocratic Oath strive, to the best of our ability, to save both lives when at all possible,” the group said in written testimony. “There are two patients under our care. We never intentionally target the unborn child during the separation procedure in order to guarantee that the baby is born dead.”
As for first-trimester situations, most involve an ectopic (out of place) pregnancies, which typically occur in the Fallopian tube.
Surgeries for ectopic pregnancies are not classified as abortions. The procedure is only intended to save the mother, not intentionally kill the baby.
Laws with an exception for “health of the mother” are even worse than those that cite “life of the mother”.
Because of the Doe v Bolton Supreme Court decision, they include a wide range of factors—physical, emotional, psychological, familial and the woman’s age—as an excuse to abort the baby.
The bottom line is that more doctors need to be informed that aborting the baby never saves the mother. They should treat the mother and the child as two separate patients.
