A Valued Friend Retires

A Valued Friend RetiresAugust 2018 – Article 2:

Linda Powell, a dear friend and tireless advocate for the sanctity of all human life, has retired as GRTL’s Treasurer, a position she has held since 2015.

“I just felt it was time for me to step back a little and take some time for myself and my family,” Powell said.

Georgia Right to Life (GRTL) President, Ricardo Davis, said Powell will be greatly missed: “Linda’s passion was obvious in everything she did. Her dedicated and professional attitude has had a positive and lasting impact on all of us.”

Powell first became involved with GRTL in 2002 when she became Chapter Leader and Education Director in Barrow County. She also served on the Board of Directors for Come Alive Ministries, the Barrow County Pregnancy Resource Center (PRC).

In 2006 Powell was named Bookkeeper in GRTL’s state office, a position she held until being appointed to the Board of Directors as Treasurer in 2015.

“I have worked with so many great people at GRTL,” Powell said. “I am very proud of what we accomplished through thick and thin. We felt no sacrifice was ever big enough to stop us from carrying out the mission of protecting innocent lives and advancing Personhood.”

She added that, “The Lord was always there to meet our needs.”

Powell said she was first drawn to the pro-life movement when she lived in Cincinnati, OH: “A woman very close to me had an abortion and I was deeply affected by the grief she suffered. That experience gave me a passion for post-abortive women, which still motivates me to this day.”

She said she plans to continue helping such women by volunteering at the Barrow County PRC.

In addition to enjoying more time for volunteering, painting, and reading, Powell said she will continue to be active in St. Matthew’s Catholic Church.

Powell has had extensive involvement in the church, including: serving as Secretary of Columbiettes, the women’s auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus; Secretary of the Women’s Club; and a teacher of religious education.

Daniel Weller replaced Powell as Treasurer.
