Defunding America’s prominent baby-killing machine, Planned Parenthood, has been a cry of devoted personhood advocates for many years. Yet, the efforts of politicians have been half-hearted at best as Planned Parenthood continues to receive almost $700 million a year in “Government Health Services Reimbursements & Grants.” [1]
The Sordid History of Planned Parenthood
As you might already know, Planned Parenthood’s roots go back to 1916 when Margaret Sanger, Planned Parenthood’s founder, opened her first birth control clinic in Brooklyn, New York. Though the clinic was shut down at first, Sanger continued to spread her destructive ideologies around the United States.
Even Planned Parenthood’s own website acknowledges its founder’s ties to the eugenics movement, as it records that Sanger spoke to a KKK rally in 1926 and supported the Supreme Court Case, Buck vs. Bell, in 1927, which legalized states sterilizing those deemed “unfit” in society. [2]
Disturbingly, the Birth Control Review Journal founded by Sanger published an article titled “Eugenic Sterilization: An Urgent Need.” The article was written in 1933 by Ernst Rudin, Adolf Hitler’s Director of Genetic Sterilization and founder of the Nazi Society for Racial Hygiene. [3] ,[4]
Before you think that this is only what Sanger’s friends and colleagues advocated for, Sanger herself says (emphasis added):
Eugenics seems to me to be valuable in its critical and diagnostic aspects, in emphasizing the danger of irresponsible and uncontrolled fertility of the “unfit” and the feeble-minded establishing a progressive unbalance in human society and lowering the birth-rate among the “fit.”…They [Eugenicists] suggest in very truth, that all intelligent and respectable parents should take as their example in this grave matter of child-bearing the most irresponsible elements in the community. [5]
Thus, for Sanger, even eugenics is not enough. The “fit” should not be encouraged to have more children, because they would be modeling their lives after the “irresponsible elements in the community.”
The Current State of Planned Parenthood
While Sanger claimed to dislike abortions because they harmed the mother (notably not the preborn child), [6] Planned Parenthood has now morphed into our nation’s leading profiteer of elective abortion.
In 2022-2023, Planned Parenthood murdered 392,715 preborn babies, its highest recorded count, and only reported 6,316 prenatal services and 1,721 adoption referrals. [7]
Consider that Planned Parenthood reported 31,098 prenatal services in 2010, [8] which dropped almost 80% in just twelve years.
However, Planned Parenthood is not content to stop at abortions to make a profit. They have now started to offer “transgender services.” The organization tries to hide this in their “other procedures” category with items such as WIC (Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children) services, but a disturbing reality can still be seen.
Live Action News reported that Planned Parenthood’s “other procedures” category went from 15,902 assorted procedures in 2020-2021 to 256,550 in 2021-2022. [9] That is an almost 1500% increase in just one year! [10]
Planned Parenthood openly provides “transgender services” to minors. Its website states (emphasis added):
[S]ome Planned Parenthood health centers only provide HRT [hormone replacement therapy] to patients who have parental consent and are at least 16 years old, while others only provide HRT for ages 18+. Other doctors may prescribe hormones to patients who are 12 and up with parental consent. [11]
Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida admitted to providing “estrogen and testosterone hormone therapy to approximately 1,900 patients a year, including minors as young as 14 with parental consent after an extensive evaluation process.” [12]
How “extensive” this process is remains to be seen as some women report only receiving 30–60-minute appointments before being prescribed testosterone at Planned Parenthood. [13]
Defund Evil: Medina vs. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic
Planned Parenthood’s love of abortion and gender insanity should be enough to convince Congress and the Supreme Court to defund the entity and keep individual states from being sued because they excluded Planned Parenthood from receiving Medicaid funds.
A recent Supreme Court case on this issue, Medina vs. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, was heard in the U.S. Supreme Court on April 2, 2025.
The case arose from South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster’s 2018 order to the state’s “Department of Health and Human Services to prohibit abortion clinics from participating in the Medicaid program.” [14] Soon after, a South Carolina woman sued the state and claimed that it was violating the Medicaid Act by not allowing her to choose the provider of her choice (Planned Parenthood) for birth control. [15]
Essentially, the Supreme Court will decide whether individual Medicaid recipients have a right to bring a case under the Medicaid Act. While this in itself seems mundane, the ripple effect will be huge. If the Supreme Court sides with South Carolina, other red states will likely follow suit in excluding Planned Parenthood from receiving Medicaid funds, bringing the U.S. one step closer to ending federal funding of America’s largest baby-killing machine. The Court plans to release its ruling by the end of June 2025. [16]
Enact Justice
Regardless of what the Supreme Court decides, the right thing to do is for Congress, the President, and individual states to prevent Planned Parenthood and all abortion mills from receiving any type of governmental, taxpayer-funded money, whether that is through Title X, Medicaid, or other means.
We encourage the Trump administration to follow through with its current actions of freezing some Title X funds to Planned Parenthood (13 Direct Title X Awards) and other “family planning” clinics for their failure to comply with President Trump’s Executive Orders on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Further, the administration ought to completely defund Planned Parenthood solely because it profits from the murder of children. [17]
Next Steps
Ultimately, while the defunding of Planned Parenthood is a righteous step, governmental officials have the duty to protect all innocent human life as they are God’s servants to punish evil and reward good (Romans 13:3-4).
They can do this through supporting laws that seek to provide equal protection and equal justice to preborn babies in the womb, applying the same homicide laws protecting born people to preborn children. They can also enact legislation that bans both puberty blockers and “gender transition” surgeries for vulnerable minors.
So, let us pray and persuade our leaders to enact justice for preborn children and promote the personhood of every human being, created male and female in God’s image (Genesis 1:26-27).
