What’s an alleged overpopulated, environmentally-threatened world to do? Save-the-planet groups who believe the world is in a climate crisis say the answer is to eliminate humans. There’s even an organization called Stop Having Kids.
The groups proclaim, “There is an unconscionable amount of needless suffering and death in the world. Birth serves as the catalyst for it all.” They also believe human reproduction is an irreversible, unnecessary, indefensible, and enduring form of harm to the planet.
The U.S. fertility rate is below what is needed to replace our population. The rate represents the average number of babies a woman will have in her lifetime. Last year it was 1.66, well below the rate of 2.1 needed to replace our population.
That trend is likely to continue. A recent Pew Research Center survey found that an increasing share of U.S. adults who are not already parents say they are unlikely to ever have children. Their reasons range from just not wanting to have children to concerns about climate change and the environment.
A majority (56%) of non-parents younger than 50 say it’s unlikely they will have children someday because they just don’t want to have children.
Make Believe Babies
For those who believe the world is in a climate crisis, however, that’s not enough. Now there’s a plan to allow those panicked over the planet’s demise to create make-believe babies.
The UK’s Daily Mail reports that virtual children that play with you, cuddle you, and even look like you will be commonplace in 50 years.
The prediction was made by Catriona Campbell, one of the country’s leading authorities on artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies.
These offspring will only exist in the “metaverse.” The term refers to a simulated environment, or virtual reality (VR), such as video games.
In this case, people will use a specialized computer program and a headset to make the user feel as if they were face-to-face with the child.
She describes these make-believe children as the “Tamagotchi generation,” referring to the digital pets popular in the 1990s and 2000s.
In her new book, AI by Design: A Plan for Living with Artificial Intelligence, she writes, “Virtual children may seem like a giant leap from where we are now, but within 50 years technology will have advanced to such an extent that babies which exist in the metaverse are indistinct from those in the real world.”
She continues, “As the metaverse evolves, I can see virtual children becoming an accepted and fully embraced part of society in much of the developed world.”
According to the Daily Mail, Campbell believes that people will one day be able to use high-tech gloves that are able to deliver tactile feedback to replicate physical sensations.
This will allow someone to cuddle, feed, and play with their digital offspring as though it were a real child.
Campbell writes “Make no mistake that this development…is a technological game-changer which, if managed correctly, could help us solve some of today’s most pressing issues, including overpopulation.”
If this becomes the new definition of Personhood, the return of Jesus can’t come soon enough. It also fulfills the Bible’s declaration that the godless are inventors of evil. Romans 1:29-30
Pro-life supporters need to be in earnest prayer that people will see this idea for what it is—an affront to God’s greatest creation—humankind.
