January 2019:
Happy New Year, Y’all!
2018 was a blitz year for Georgia Right to Life (GRTL) and for Personhood. Even in the face of challenges and setbacks our team has stood firm and taken great strides to advance the protection of all innocent human life from the earliest biological beginning through natural death.
Allow me a moment to review some highlights that illustrate how your prayers, service, and giving are making an impact.
GRTL Endorsed Candidates and the 2019 Legislature
The 2018 Elections wrapped up last month. Our goal in supporting candidates is to advance the protection of life by working with pro-life leaders in communities across Georgia who seek to represent you in our state and local governments.
This year 81% of candidates endorsed by GRTL Political Action Committee (PAC) were elected! Now the focus is on the state legislature which convenes this month. In the coming weeks GRTL Legislative Director Jessica DuBois will update you on bills we’re working on for 2019.
What differentiates GRTL from other organizations is our grassroots focus and leadership. Local and regional chapters across Georgia not only engage in community events, they provide leadership and support for pro-life ministries.
GRTL Chapters Advance Personhood at the Grassroots
Chapter leaders form the majority of the Board of Directors of GRTL because we value accountability to our community supporters. Chapter Development Director Genevieve Wilson provided me an update of some of the activities and accomplishments this year, including:
- Pro-life fetal development presentations in public schools
- Educational tables at fairs and festivals all over the state
- Pro-life letters to the editors of local newspapers
- Hosting 40 Days for Life campaigns
- Personhood presentations in churches around the state
- “Adopting” Student for Life groups; taking them to the D.C. March for Life, and local 40 Days for Life activities
Statewide Educational Activities by GRTL
Educational efforts that change hearts have been the focus of GRTL Education Director April Fry; she and the chapters were busy last year. Some of the activities included:
- GRTL’s annual oratory contest
- Educational activities at the following events:
- Bringing America Back to Life international pro-life conference in Cleveland, OH
- Pillars of Personhood Trainings and Outreaches at Crosspointe Community Church, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Kennesaw State University, and Dalton State College
- AtlantaFest Christian Music Festival
- Southeastern Home School Exposition
- CareNet National Conference
Pro-Life Billboards Save Lives
In addition, last year GRTL was able to bring its message using billboards!
From late April through most of December, we have run 22 strategically placed billboards proclaiming that life is valuable, as well as providing information to women needing pregnancy counseling.
The messages were up in Atlanta, Augusta, Macon, Rome, and Savannah. Hundreds of thousands of Georgians each day have seen our billboards and many women have texted and called for help.
And this is just the beginning. God is opening opportunities that will position GRTL to greatly increase its public relations and pro-life ministry reach into our communities. Join us in prayer, asking the Lord to provide us with ever increasing talent and resources to give a voice to the voiceless and the vulnerable!
