2018 Legislative Session Opens

Legislative Wrap-UpJanuary 2018 – Article 2:

The 2018 session of the Georgia General Assembly will begin on January 8.  It involves 40 “legislative days” and is expected to end in mid- to late-March. A legislative day means a day when the assembly is actually meeting, not a calendar day, which is why it’s impossible to predict the exact day the session will end.

For the second year Georgia Right to Life’s (GRTL) government affairs representative in the legislature will be Jessica DuBois, owner of Atlanta-based DuBois Government Affairs, LLC.

“Dealing with the legislature is difficult,” said GRTL President Ricardo Davis. “Those who don’t value the sanctity of life are well organized and financed, making our job a monumental challenge. We will need your help.”

You Are Vital – Be Prepared

Pro-life supporters can play a vital role by being prepared to contact their state representative and senator when called upon. And given the growing influence of social media, reacting quickly is critical.

In order to do that, having phone and fax numbers, as well as email addresses, readily available is crucial. It’s also helpful to contact each office in advance just to let them know who you are and that you would appreciate their support of any sanctity of life related legislation that is being considered.

When contacting a legislator’s office it’s important to be respectful and polite—not confrontational.

If an issue develops and we need your help, GRTL will provide talking points and any related information that will be helpful when contacting law makers, so please be on the lookout for emails with updates and alerts.
